As Ackley Bridge opens its doors for a new term, head teacher Mandy Carter (Jo Joyner) finds herself public enemy No. 1.

Both the Year 7 intake and exam results have plummeted, forcing Mandy to instigate a strict academic regime that causes uproar among staff and students alike.

Elsewhere, to disguise her true sexuality, Nas has agreed to her mum Kaneez’s (Sunetra Sarker) idea of a sham engagement with Naveed, who is also in the closet.

Nas has bigger problems, however, when she gets some news that blows her already complicated world apart…
