Her Majesty has done her fair share of naming ships, but never one as big as this –HMS Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s largest and most advanced warship ever.

This three-part documentary tells its story, from construction to rigorous safety tests, in a series three years in the making.

Thwarted by financial constraints, technical difficulties and bad weather, it’s not been plain sailing, but the aircraft carrier will be in service for the next 50 years, and will serve as home to 700 sailors.

The first episode sees it leaving the dock for the first time with only 30cm to spare either side of the gate.

Let’s hope it has parking sensors.
