Historians Dan Jones and Suzannah Lipscomb present this lavish three-part docudrama on the life of Elizabeth I, starring actress and model Lily Cole as the young monarch and later featuring former EastEnders star Charlie Clements (who also starred in the series Henry VIII and His Six Wives, another Jones-Lipscomb production).
In tonight's episode, subtitled Battle for the Throne, Dan and Suzannah trace Elizabeth's turbulent early years, during which she was surrounded by enemies and traitors.
They tell her astonishing story from a brutal childhood (she was just three when her mother Anne Boleyn was beheaded) to her unlikely rise to power at the age of 25.
