For Sama - C4

Waad al-Kateab with daughter Sama

Life in Syria through the eyes of one young mum – a documentary like nothing you've ever seen before

For Sama is an extraordinary film made by Syrian journalist Waad al-Kateab (Saturday, 9pm, see our TV Guide for full details).

Sama is her baby daughter, who was born during the siege of Aleppo – a beautiful baby girl living in amongst the terror of war.

It’s remarkable because this intimate and raw film captures the absolutely heart-wrenching horror of the siege, the immediate aftermath of air strikes, the injuries, the death, the grief, the blood, the screaming and the sickening unfairness of innocent children being slaughtered.

And then there’s little Sama, a baby who doesn’t cry when bombs explode nearby, who represents such hope, resilience and strength.

The film has already won awards around the globe and it feels like it has the power to make real change – when a mother’s love made the world sit up and listen.
