Lofty plucks up the courage to ask boyfriend Dominic to marry him – will Dom say yes?

Nurse Ben ‘Lofty’ Chiltern makes a big decision about his future this week when he realises he wants to propose to his doctor boyfriend Dominic. Ever since his gran Sheilagh gave Lofty his granddad’s ring and said: ‘Pass this onto your man', Lofty realised that Dom was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

A very traditional guy, Lofty wants to do things the old-fashioned way, which means asking Dom’s mum Carole for permission to marry her son. When Carole arrives at the hospital, though, Lofty doesn’t exactly get the reaction he was hoping for as Carole confidently tells him Dom’s not one for marriage!

Undeterred, Lofty vows to plough on with his proposal and sets about creating a scene from Tuscany in the grounds of Holby with some lemons, bunting and bicycles! However, it looks like all his efforts are in vain when Carole tells Dom all about Lofty’s secret plan! Will Lofty go ahead with the proposal? And how might Dom react?

Meanwhile, Nicky struggles to live up to Jac’s exacting standards. However, it seems that Jac isn’t exactly on her A-game since going under Gaskell’s knife – and he begins to notice she’s suffering post-op problems. Is Jac on borrowed time?

Also, having recovered from her surgery, Essie realises she needs to get back to work.

Holby City continues Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
