Today the 3D scanners go behind the surface of buildings in Florence, to reveal just how the dome of Florence’s cathedral was built, its architect Brunelleschi having deliberately destroyed the plans so no one would be able to copy him.
Then it’s on to neighbouring Pisa, to map the internal structure of its famous leaning tower. Building on soft clay and soil wasn’t such a great idea, it seems.
