4th Impact exit The X Factor after Simon takes the judges to deadlock

They were five last night, but this evening one of The X Factor acts had to go. Say goodbye, Cheryl’s wannabe popsters 4th Impact.

Despite his hiccup with Adele’s Hello, Ché Chesterman squeezed through, as did Louisa Johnson, who opened and closed the show last night, and Reggie 'N' Bollie, the latter now “national treasures” according to Nick Grimshaw.

The X Factor sing-off couldn’t have been tighter as 4th Impact sang their hearts out against Rita’s Lauren Murray. It went to a 2-all vote from the judges, with Rita and Cheryl both choosing their acts.

Rita chose Lauren on the basis “she gets up there and stands on her own and I can see her having an album”. Cheryl admitted that it was “the best I've heard Lauren sing, but I have to choose my girls to stay”.

Nick followed Rita’s lead and plumped to save Lauren, but then Simon prompted deadlock by choosing to send the soloist home! The pop guru claimed: “It’s the best sing-off the show has ever had, but I think I’m gonna send Lauren home."

This sent the whole thing back to the viewers’ vote and, sadly for 4th Impact it wasn’t their night.

Roll on next week’s semi-finals.
