Our expert TV journalists have picked the best things on TV tonight...

Death in Paradise, 9 pm, BBC One

The team lands what seems like an open-and-shut case when local businessman Vincent Petit is found stabbed at a fundraiser for the children’s home he used to live in, with the manager Marianne Laforge standing over his body holding a knife. Despite Marianne making a full confession, Neville isn’t convinced – and when forensics confirm the knife she was clutching wasn’t the murder weapon, he’s forced to cast a wider net to search for the killer. Meanwhile, Selwyn (Don Warrington) anxiously awaits the arrival of his daughter Andrina (Genesis Lynea), and Neville’s excited for the return of Sophie...

Originally airing on BritBox, this sizzling drama follows British expat Bella Ainsworth (Natascha McElhone) in 1920s Italy as she opens up a high-end hotel in the idyllic resort of Portofino. She’s hoping for a fresh start for her war-ravaged family, but with her husband, Cecil, plotting to secure their future back in England by marrying off their son, cracks begin to appear in their shiny new life. Look out for American art dealer Jack Turner (Adam James) among the guests checking in this week, plus snooty dowager Lady Latchmere (Anna Chancellor). Tonight’s guests – comedians Joe Wilkinson and Jo Brand, broadcaster Amol Rajan and weather presenter Lucy Martin – all come armed with (potentially) tall tales. But Jo Brand’s opener proves very hard to follow: she claims that after a misunderstanding, she became a chauffeur for one of the Jackson 5…

Amol Rajan interviews Bill Gates, 7.30pm, BBC2

There are plenty of questions to ask someone who was once the world’s richest person (Amol Rajan says when he told others he was interviewing Bill Gates, they all wanted to know if he’s frugal), but when they decide to give away most of that wealth to philanthropic causes, there’s even more to ask. Also touching on everything from Gates’ therapy aged 12 to his feelings about social media and Donald Trump, this is an insight into the life of the man who became a billionaire aged 31.

Breaking Bad legend Bryan Cranston returns in the smash-hit crime thriller as disgraced New Orleans judge Michael Desiato, who went to extreme lengths in season one to cover up his teenage son’s hit-and-run incident, which killed a member of a notorious crime family. The new 10-episode run (the first three are available from today) finds Michael disbarred and stuck in a prison cell, until help arrives in the form of assistant US attorney Olivia Delmont (Rosie Perez), who plans to bring down the powerful family, led by Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg). Will Michael agree to work with Olivia and have a shot at redeeming himself?

Former Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes swaps period drama for life as a ghost hunter in this lively and richly imagined new eight-part supernatural drama. Set in an alternative reality where phantoms plague the people of Britain, the tale follows Lucy Carlyle, a teenager with a psychic gift and plenty of emotional baggage, as she joins a new ghost-hunting agency trying to make a name for itself. Unlike their rivals, Lockwood & Co is comprised solely of teenagers who are sick of being exploited by adults, but they get more than they bargained for after stumbling on a dark conspiracy.
