The Pact season 2, 9 pm, BBC One
We’ve heard plenty of nasty stories about the father of Christine’s (Rakie Ayola) children in recent weeks, but Harry (Steven Mackintosh) finally gets a chance to share his side of the story tonight. Suspecting her mother hasn’t been entirely straight with her and after the events of the wedding, Megan (Mali Ann Rees) is desperate to find out more about Connor when she visits her dad in prison, although we end up learning a lot more than she does thanks to a delicious and unexpected twist. The slippery convict as played by the excellent Mackintosh certainly looks set to add another layer of intrigue as the drama continues. ★★★★ SMA
The White Lotus season 2, 9 pm, Sky Atlantic
Worried she’s been too hostile, Harper (Aubrey Plaza) attempts to play nice with Cameron (Theo James) and Daphne (Meghann Fahy). But her plan backfires when she ends up on an overnight trip with Daphne while Cameron and Ethan (Will Sharpe) stay behind to party. It’s an eye-opening experience for Harper, who gets a glimpse behind the facade of her frenemies’ Instagram-perfect marriage. Meanwhile, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) is spiraling after husband Greg’s departure, so she decides to seek the advice of a local tarot reader… ★★★★★ SP

The story of how the World Cup was stolen during the spring of 1966 and then discovered a week later by a dog called Pickles is well-known to millions of football fans. But the authorities had no idea who actually pinched the famous Jules Rimet trophy, until the culprit was finally unmasked by the Daily Mirror a couple of years ago.
Now, this irreverent documentary tells the remarkable tale of the whole affair, which contains more twists than a series of Broadchurch and includes London gangsters, a controversial fake trophy and a priceless stamp collection. ★★★★ SMA
Tulsa King, Paramount Plus
Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone stars as New York mobster Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi, who becomes a fish out of water when he’s despatched to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to set up new criminal operations there. This 10-part drama, created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone)and Terence Winter (The Sopranos), has humour and heart and sees Mafia member Dwight, fresh out of jail after serving 25 years, forced to navigate a completely new environment as he recruits a bunch of misfit locals into his new ‘Mob’. ‘Suddenly he’s in this place he has no clue about with cornfields and cowboys everywhere’, says Stallone of his role. ‘It’s a completely alien landscape to him.’ ★★★ TL
Best box set on TV tonight
The Queen and her family find themselves on the back foot as this lavish saga moves into the 1990s with a brand-new cast (including Imelda Staunton as the Queen) and plenty of royal drama. The breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage hogs all the headlines, with Dominic West capturing our new King wonderfully, but the first episode of this 10-part series also sees him toying with the idea of ousting his mother. The show’s writer, Peter Morgan, handles the story with subtlety and skill, yet even the pulled punches can’t remove the edge from a story that resonates deeply in light of recent events. ★★★★★ SMA
Best film on TV tonight
True Grit, 10 pm, ITV Four
Jeff Bridges — currently to be seen in Disney Plus thriller series The Old Man – is inspired casting for the role of Rooster Cogburn, the ornery lawman made famous by John Wayne. The Coen brothers’ splendid remake adds more, well, grit.
to proceedings as Bridges is hired by a precocious 14-year (Hailee Steinfeld) to bring in the man who murdered her father. Funny, tough and cut through with healthy cynicism, this is a worthy addition to the Western genre. If you want to revisit the 1969 original, it’s on Sky Cinema Greats this afternoon at 3.55pm. ★★★★ NP
