Craig's jailbird dad reveals a disturbing secret in Corrie

Craig Tinker's world is blown apart when he visits his dad, Darryl, in prison in Coronation Street

Having set his sights on joining the police force, Craig Tinker got a terrible shock when he was turned down because he didn't declare his dad Darryl's criminal conviction on the application form in Corrie.

Poor Craig didn't even realise he had a dad in prison thanks to his mum, Beth, lying to him all his life. The discovery and his mum's betrayal led to Kirk walking out. Tim and Sally Metcalfe took pity on him and he's sleeping on their sofa until he can sort things out.

Now, even though his dad's a criminal, Craig wants to get to know him. He decided to write him a letter but, after showing it to Faye Windass, he changed his mind about sending it. Faye, however, found out the name of the prison where Darryl's being held and secretly wrote a letter to him on Craig's behalf.

This week, Craig's shocked to get a reply. But instead of leading to a happy family reunion, it blows Craig's world even further apart.

Anna Windass is appalled when Faye tells her about the letter and she marches round to see Craig. Beth and Kirk are furious to learn of Faye’s interference… then Sinead Tinker arrives with a letter addressed to Craig.

When Craig tears the letter open and announces that his dad wants to see him, Beth’s devastated and forbids him from going to the prison.

Craig goes against Beth's wishes and, after booking a prison visit, he drowns his sorrows in the Bistro and stumbles back to No.4, where Sally and Tim come down to investigate the noise.

Sally and Tim aren't impressed, then drunk and disorderly Craig makes things worse by throwing up on the carpet.

It's the last straw for Sally, who demands Craig and his pet rat move out.

After Craig summons the nerve to visit his dad, he's surprised how well they get on.

But Craig's illusions are shattered when visiting time ends and Darryl quietly asks him to smuggle in some drugs the next time he visits. When Craig refuses and tells his dad he isn't a match for Beth's husband, Kirk, Darryl retaliates with a family bombshell that sends his son reeling.

Back at home, Craig confronts Beth with the shocking truth he's learned, and Kirk's rocked back on his heels.

What's the secret that Craig's uncovered, and will it destroy Beth's relationships with her son and husband Kirk for ever? Watch Coronation Street on ITV from Monday, 12 September.
