Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) better brother, Nikhil, is on his way back to Emmerdale.

Nikhil (Rik Makarem) has been gone two years, after the tragic death of his beloved wife, Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams).

Nikhil couldn’t face life in the village without Gennie and moved to Canada, taking their daughter Molly with him.

But now Nikhil’s on his way back…

With Molly? Emmerdale aren’t saying. Why Nikhil’s returning is a mystery… But maybe it has something to do with the way Jai is losing control of himself and the factory.

“I’m thrilled to be welcoming back Rik,” says Emmerdale series producer Kate Oates.

“Nikhil previously left Emmerdale under sad circumstances, as he grieved for his wife, Gennie.

“But with strong family roots still in the village, it was inevitable that he would reappear.

“What will he make of the family he left behind now, though? Jai’s on drugs, Rishi [Bhasker Patel] is at his wits’ end and Priya [Fiona Wade] has become very ambitious.”

“With fresh energy and wisdom from playing other characters, I’m over the moon to be re-investing in Nikhil,” adds Rik. “Emmerdale is fantastic at character-driven stories and, for any actor, this is massively rewarding.”

Expect to see Nikhil pitch up in the village the next few weeks.

Emmerdale continues on ITV, Monday, September 7, 7.00pm.
