Chris and Emma farewell to Sam

On the day of Sam’s funeral, Emma’s distractions over the last few days mean she hasn't thought about what she’s going to wear. When a dress and suit are delivered, she's initially confused, then it hits her - Sam has arranged every detail of this funeral, even down to what she and Chris are to wear. A still-raw Chris declares he’s not going to the funeral, but Emma worries about how that will look to the police.

Mandy shows up to offer support and tells Chris he'll regret not going to the funeral. At the funeral, Emma's shocked when Howard shows up, thinking he is fulfilling Sam’s final request to look after Emma, but she sends him away – what if Chris sees him?! Then Collier arrives to pay her respects. Emma learns Collier has passed the case over to the coroner, but even with the good news, she remains wary and on edge.

When the humanist service begins, both Emma and Chris are surprised when Heston is asked to read out a final letter written by Sam, in which he lovingly speaks out to both of them. This prompts Chris to interrupt in an emotional frenzy and Emma fears he's about to confess his role in helping Sam die. But Chris simply declares Sam was the best dad in the world, and he doesn’t regret being with him to the end one bit!

The pair are so close to being able to lay Sam to rest, but when the time comes to take the coffin away, Emma's veneer finally cracks. Hysterical, Emma has to be pulled away and comforted by Chris as Sam is taken away and laid to rest.

Also, Zara is called up by a tightly-wound friend whose husband has disappeared. Zara's sure there's a rational explanation, but when she discovers what it is she's less than sensitive in helping to resolve it.
