One-time beauty queen Sandra Bullock comes back from a broken marriage to her old home town in Texas. In this enjoyably syrupy confection, Harry Connick Jr is the new man in her life and Michael Paré has a crucial cameo as her ex-husband.
The cruel way in which he announces the end of their relationship on a tacky TV talk show gets the movie off to a great start and Bullock's encounter with a still-resentful old classmate who now runs the local employment agency is a standout bit of drama.
Things get a bit lacklustre as the script dutifully churns though Bullock's difficult relationship with her little daughter (Mae Whitman) but for the most part this is a sweet, engaging love story and the two stars make an appealing couple.
