World's Greatest Palaces turns to Kensington Palace, a big favourite with tourists and with the Royal Family

This week, in the fourth of the ten-part World's Greatest Palaces, Kensington Palace reveals its secrets.

It was originally a two-storey mansion in the village of Kensington, but became associated with royalty after William and Mary bought it in 1689, for the princely sum of £20,000.

It's currently the London home to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. But who knew it was one of the first buildings to have sash windows?

Also, in the past home to two of the most famous royals – Queen Victoria and Princess Diana – it was also Queen Anne’s home, as seen in the film The Favourite.
