TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 5th May

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, 9.15pm, ITV

To mark 20 years since the iconic quiz show first aired, ITV is screening seven special episodes of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson taking over from Chris Tarrant in the quizmaster’s seat.

Apparently the motormouth former Top Gear presenter is a huge quiz fan, though it remains to be seen whether his naturally sarcastic tone of voice will work on such familiar phrases as: ‘Is that your final answer?’ It’s the quiz itself, with its instantly recognisable theme and addictive format – slightly tweaked for this revival – that remains the star attraction. Although we’d love Jeremy to end the show with: ‘And on that bombshell…’ Continues daily.

The Great Rameses: New Evidence Revealed, 10.10pm, Channel 5

The Great Rameses: New Evidence Revealed

The pharaoh Rameses II is remembered for being a mighty warrior, statesman and builder. But as we learn in this new series, archaeologists are increasingly questioning the idea that he was a great leader. Instead they’re wondering whether, having declared himself a living god and peppered Egypt with monuments of himself, Rameses was the original master of political spin.

Casualty, 9.15pm, BBC1

Casualty Connie

Connie’s back (hooray!) – and she’s on the warpath. Elle’s delighted by her return, but Charlie is unimpressed with Connie’s new ideas for the department and there’s no gratitude for poor Ethan, who is battling through the first anniversary of Cal’s death. He seeks solace in the arms of Leigh-Ann – are the pair on the verge of one of Casualty’s most ill-advised romances? Also, Rash finally asks Gem out, and Alicia is worried she’ll offend Ethan when she’s persuaded to throw a party.
