TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 27th November

Mrs Wilson, 9pm, BBC1

Ruth Wilson is no stranger to an emotional role, but portraying the marital turmoil of her own grandmother takes some beating. The Luther star puts in a powerhouse performance as Alison who, in the 1960s, is left reeling when she discovers that her recently deceased husband Alec had still been married to another woman. As Alison tries to find out whether her whole life has been a lie, she looks back over her early days with the charming Alec. As the twists and shocking revelations keep on coming, you’ll have to remind yourself that this really happened. Look out for glimpes of Keeley Hawes as another mysterious figure in Alec’s life… Rating: *****

How to Spend It Well at Christmas, 8pm, ITV

Dread Christmas shopping? Fear not – Phillip Schofield is back with a three-part guide to what to put under the tree and what to leave on the shelves. Today he investigates the year’s most coveted toys, like Poopsie Unicorn (yes, it does exactly what you think!), and reveals how expensive seemingly cheap collectibles could be. While stars including Simon Gregson and Sally Phillips and their kids test board games and retro computer games, Phillip has fun helping gleeful kids prove whether slime, modelling clay or felt tips cause the most mess! Don’t part with your cash without watching. Rating: ****

Egyptian Tomb Hunting, 9pm, Channel 5

It took Indiana Jones half a movie to locate a tomb but Tony Robinson finds them in abundance as he joins archaeologist John Ward and a team in Egypt. He squeezes himself into narrow secret passages, enters caves as big as underground stations and discovers a chamber of sarcophaguses. They find a shabti, a doll of a slave worker, who would have been buried in the tomb, with the doll helping them in the afterlife. Tony is clearly having the time of his life and is not at all worried by the possibility of disturbing snakes or scorpions… In Luxor, the actor shares his joy of temples before heading off to hunt for more tombs and their fascinating mummified contents. Concludes tomorrow. Rating: ****
