James Franco is brilliant in an extraordinary, Oscar-nominated tour-de-force as real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston who gets trapped under a boulder while canyoneering.

Alone and mobile phone-less near Moab, Utah, his situation gets grimmer and grimmer as the hours and days tick by, and he starts ruminating about his life and the world in general...

A triumphant work of art, utterly cinematic, though it's set almost entirely in one location, and imaginatively filmed by director Danny Boyle, who succeeds in making the movie inventive and dynamic.
