About Time

Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams embark on a time-travelling romance, with a little help from Bill Nighy

Richard Curtis' third film as writer-director has a reassuringly familiar flavour, but this time he has given his usual romcom formula a surprising sci-fi twist - the bumbling hero can travel through time.

On turning 21, Domhnall Gleeson's shy, slightly shambolic Tim learns from his diffident father (Bill Nighy) that he has inherited the ability to time-travel into his past and uses his birthright to woo - in typically fumbling fashion - Rachel McAdams' equally shy Mary.

Although Gleeson makes an appealingly unconventional lead, Tim and Mary's romance lacks spark, and it is Nighy and Gleeson's tender father-son relationship that proves more likely to touch your heart.
