Feisty new surgeon Ange Goddard clashes with Hanssen on her first day…
There's a new face on the wards this week as new general surgeon Ange Goddard arrives – and she’s got former Holby favourite Tom Campbell-Gore in tow!
Ange (played by former Wild at Heart actress Dawn Steele) and Tom (New Tricks star Denis Lawson) are setting up a brand-new Young Adult Unit on Keller and their first case proves tricky when teenager Duncan is admitted to the YAU with a nasty stab wound.
Ange tries to find out what’s happened by gaining Duncan’s trust. But, as a crime has been committed, Holby boss Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry) orders her to contact the police. However, it seems Ange’s not one to tow the line and the pair soon clash!
Having already locked horns with Hanssen, Ange's day gets worse when Tom – last seen at Holby in 2004 – suffers a heart attack!
With experienced consultant Tom out of action, Hanssen's unsure if he can trust Ange, so declares he's putting the opening of the YAU on hold. Ange knows these vulnerable young people need her help right now – but can she prove she's the right person to lead the YAU?
Elsewhere, on AAU, retired nurse Cherie Grimes (played by former Emmerdale star Lorraine Chase) turns up as a patient on AAU. Fun-loving and full of life, Cherie has spent 40 years working in hospitals caring for patients and amuses nurse Donna Jackson (Jaye Jacobs) with her funny stories of days gone by.
Cherie tells Donna she has lots of exciting plans for her retirement, so she's shell-shocked when it's later revealed she has cancer. For all the lives she's helped save as a nurse, will the staff at Holby now look after Cherie in her time of need?
