EastEnders has revealed there is a dramatic twist heading for a surprise pair in the new year...

EastEnders producer Kate Oates has revealed that there will be a big twist in the Sharon Mitchell and Keanu Taylor love triangle next year.

The forbidden pair have been playing away behind Phil Mitchell's back for weeks, starting when he fled to Spain a few months ago.

But now there is the added complication of Louise, who just happens to be not only Phil's daughter, but also Keanu's brother's on/off girlfriend.

There's drama ahead for these two...

Viewers will have seen Keanu and Louise sound more time together recently as he gives the schoolgirl driving lessons.

But could their time spent together in the close confinement of a car mean things could turn romantic while Sharon's in America?

Kate Oates revealed at a recent press event that there is plenty more to come from this storyline in the new year...

"We're going to be playing more of that amazing love triangle that Keanu has fallen in to. It's going to get really messy.

Louise has a driving lesson with Keanu - but could it lead to more?

"Sharon doesn't know what she's unleashed, but maybe she wont be the one who ends up with his heart, so we'll see how that ends up."

And Sharon's messy love life isn't the only drama heading for the Square in 2019...

"We're also bringing Mitch back," continues Kate. "A secret that he's bringing with him - a little surprise - will be a little bomb to go off in the Taylor family.

"We're stretching that family as ever. They're going to be as rowdy and larger-than-life as you have come to love them."

It is also going to be a big year for the Slaters, with Jean taking centre stage of the drama for a change... "Jean's going to have a bit of a new challenge coming her way, but she may find that it's the best thing that ever happened to her.

"There's some fun stuff to challenge her, along with lots for Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey".

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
