Irma Vep, 9pm, Sky Atlantic/NOW
French director Olivier Assayas adapts his cult 1996 film of the same name into an eight-part series starring Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander. Hollywood star Mira Harberg (Vikander) heads to Paris to take on the iconic role of cat-suited evil muse Irma Vep in a remake of 1915 French noir Les Vampires. But with director René Vidal helming a manic shoot and Mira’s ex-girlfriend, Laurie, causing much distraction, Mira soon finds herself retreating into the role. A smart, seductive TV remake of a film about a remake – it doesn’t get more meta than this!

She also meets locals of the village and joins in the party at the Sandringham Women’s Institute, who chat about their many interactions with Her Majesty. Best box set to watch on TV tonight
Under the Banner of Heaven, Disney Plus
Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Brenda Wright Lafferty, a 24-year-old woman found murdered in her Utah home in 1984, along with her infant daughter, Erica, in this true-crime drama. Devout Mormon detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) initially suspects Brenda’s husband Allen (The Serpent’s Billy Howle) of the crime, but suffers a crisis of faith when he learns that a fundamentalist religious sect may have played a part. With a carefully balanced portrayal of belief in many forms, and uniformly excellent performances, this gripping miniseries doesn’t shy away from the big questions about the power of faith.
Best film to watch on TV tonight
Young Adult, 11.15pm, BBC Two (not NI)
This deliciously sour movie gives Charlize Theron a terrific role as a former prom queen-turned-teen fiction writer who returns to her drab small home town in a bid to win back ex-boyfriend Patrick Wilson, even though he's now a happily married new dad. Pursuing her delusional scheme, she finds an unlikely confidant in another ex-classmate, bitter school outcast Patton Oswalt. A painful, sad and very, very funny comedy.
