‘Nothing surprises me any more,’ says one of the midwives at Birmingham Women’s Hospital tonight.

But when car electrician Ben, 29, passes out without warning, hitting the floor with a thud while his partner Amy, 23, is in labour,it does come as a bit of a shock to all those in the room.

Meanwhile, dad-to-be Andreas, 31, is in danger of getting too involved.

As a doctor, he knows what can go wrong – so he even wears medical scrubs while his partner Nikoletta, 34, is giving birth.

The most moving story is that of Katie, 29, and Sam, 30, who are having their second baby after the heartbreaking loss of their first-born son at eight weeks the previous year.
