Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher: 'Andy has no idea Chrissie is framing him!'
Innocent Andy Sugden pleads guilty to shooting Lawrence in Emmerdale, reveals star Kelvin Fletcher
Emmerdale’s Andy Sugden is in prison for shooting Lawrence White – a crime he didn’t commit but he says he did! Kelvin Fletcher explains to Soaplife exactly how this situation occurred...
Does Andy realise he’s been set up? “Well, at first he thinks it’s laughable that he’s accused of shooting Lawrence [John Bowe]. Then he starts to panic. He is the only suspect and has no idea that Chrissie [Louise Marwood] is setting him up.”
Who does he think is behind all of this? “He is certain that Lachlan [Thomas Atkinson] knows something and presses Rakesh to do some digging. But Chrissie then tells Andy she knows what he’s thinking and says she would know if Lachlan did it, making Andy feel guilty.”
Does he suspect that Chrissie is up to something? “He has no idea as she is his biggest supporter. She cries in court and screams out that he is innocent. He is actually more worried about how Chrissie will cope if he gets sent down and makes Rakesh [Pasha Bocarie] assure him that he will look after Chrissie. Little does he know that she is orchestrating the whole thing!”
Why does Andy plead guilty? “That’s what Rakesh is advising him to do. The evidence is stacked against him. It is out of his hands and Andy feels that nobody can help. He’s in a sorry state and accepts that he is going to be sent to prison. He has been inside before, so is better equipped than most, but he is an emotional character who has had mental health issues – and that is worrying.”
Might this bring Robert and Andy closer together? “Possibly. I think Robert owes Andy and their bond is still fractured by the whole Katie episode. I love working with Ryan Hawley [who plays Robert] and it would be nice for them to have a bit of a brotherly cuddle.”
