Best TV shows on TV tonight

The Masked Dancer, 6:30pm, ITV

With six episodes’ worth of clues already scribbled in their notebooks, we’re expecting Poirot-esque levels of deduction from our celebrity panel at this point in the competition. But are they any closer to pinpointing the identities of our five remaining masked dancers? In tonight’s semi-final, John Bishop steps in as a guest panellist, and with just three spots remaining in next Saturday's final, it doesn't take a maths prodigy to work out that we're due two other unmaskings by the end of tonight's show. Will the panel’s guesses turn out to be right on the money or completely wide of the mark? There's only one way to find out — tune in!

Strictly Come Dancing, 6:30pm, BBC One

We love a themed week on Strictly and last Saturday’s movie spectacular didn’t disappoint as it brought iconic songs from the big screen to the dancefloor with our remaining celebrities performing routines to everything from Top Gun: Maverick to Mermaids and The Full Monty to The Lion King

Normal business resumes tonight but, rest assured, the show is no less entertaining. No one wants to be in tomorrow night’s dreaded dance-off particularly as, next week, Strictly will be paying homage to 100 Years of the BBC. Fab-u-lous!

I Can See Your Voice, 9:05pm, BBC One

Paddy McGuinness (surely one of the busiest men on TV) is  back hosting a second series of the barmy competition  where players must deduce who can really sing and who is  faking it. With £10,000 up for grabs expect some top-notch  lip-syncing from six mystery performers as contestants hunt  for clues. Amanda Holden, Alison Hammond and Jimmy

Carr return as the trusty panel ‘assisting’ them while  tonight’s famous face on dueting duties is Tony Hadley of  Spandau Ballet fame. With a new round in the mix and  Paddy now performing weekly songs himself, let the fakery  and guesswork commence! ★★★ TL

Tommy Steele: The Great Entertainer, 8:30pm, Channel 5

A profile of the boy born Thomas Hicks in London’s East End who went on to  become the country’s first home grown rocker, before later re-inventing  himself as a star of stage and screen.  So famous was Steele that already in 1957 he’d had a film, The Tommy Steele Story, made about his life. He was still only 21 years old. ★★★ SM

Best box set to watch on TV tonight

The Bear, Disney Plus

Jeremy Allen White as Carmy in The Bear

Shameless US star Jeremy Allen White stars as young chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto in this critically acclaimed comedy-drama. Carmy has made a success of himself in the world of fine dining, but after the tragic suicide of his brother, he returns home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. It’s a different world for Carmy, who must try to get the uncooperative staff on board, cope with family rifts and navigate the tricky challenges of small business, all the while facing his own grief.

Best film to watch on TV tonight

The Rise of Skywalker, 8:30pm, Channel 4

The latest Star Wars trilogy comes to a close with an instalment that leans towards the ‘whimper’ end of the spectrum, as JJ Abrams wraps things up with determined protagonist Rey (Daisy Ridley) and her frenemy Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). There’s an awful lot of fan service here, nailed on regardless of coherence, giving the whole exercise the feeling of a love letter to the original trilogy without an understanding of what made it so loved in the first place. That said, there is a real spectacle on show,  as Rey and her comrades Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) face the First  Order for the last time, culminating in a space battle to end them all. ★★★NP

Live Sport

  • Leicester City v Crystal Palace (Kick-off 12.30pm), BT Sport 1
  • Australia v Fiji (Kick-off 7.30pm), Rugby League World Cup, BBC2
