Best TV shows on TV tonight

The Apprentice, 9 pm, BBC One

The business challenge, or as Lord Sugar prefers ‘the toughest job interview around’, is still making headlines and remains a ratings hit well into its 17th series. Well, if it ain’t broke… This week, in a bid to avoid the inevitable boardroom berating, the surviving candidates fully absorb themselves in throwing immersive events in Shropshire. They’re in charge of selling tickets, booking entertainment and organising food and drink. While one team find this is just too much plate-spinning, the other have an idea that is quite criminal.

The Supervet: Safari Special, 9 pm, Channel 4

The Supervet series 17

Noel Fitzpatrick is a long way from his veterinary practice in leafy Surrey for this special, which follows him as he helps treat endangered animals in South Africa. Using his vast experience pioneering bionic limbs for pets, he’s called to give his input into creating a prosthetic foot for a three-year-old rhino who was mauled by a crash of rhinos.  He also performs one  of the world’s first arthroscopies on a lame tiger, which involves inserting a camera into its arthritic joint before injecting it with platelet-rich plasma. And for someone who usually deals with domestic cats and dogs, Noel is left  truly humbled by the experience.

You & Me, ITVX

You & Me stars

The worlds of three young Londoners collide in this likeable three-parter, scripted by actor-turned-writer Jamie Davis (Casualty’s Max Walker). Ben (Harry Lawtey) and Jess (Sophia Brown) fall in love after meeting at a bus stop, but life has some unexpected twists in store for them. Meanwhile, rising theatre star Emma (Jessica Barden) is secretly grieving a profound loss in her personal life. You’ll need your wits about you as the series repeatedly zips between two separate timelines, but it’s worth it for the warmth of the writing and the sincere performances of the leads, including Corrie’s Julie Hesmondhalgh as Ben’s mum, Linda.

Best film on TV tonight

Brian & Charles, 10pm, Sky Premiere

Brian posing with his robot Charles

This charming offbeat comedy was nominated in the Outstanding British Film category at Sunday’s BAFTAs. It tells the tale of Brian (David Earl), living an isolated life in a remote part of the Welsh countryside, who after experimenting with various inventions (let’s face it, we’ve all wished we had an egg belt and a flying cuckoo clock), builds a robot. ‘Charles’ (Chris Hayward), assembled from bits and pieces including a mannequin’s head and an old washing machine, eases his creator’s loneliness, but then Brian makes a connection with a local woman (Sherlock’s Louise Brealey). Will Brian and Charles’ touching bromance be swept aside?
