Tension, betrayal, and violence make themselves at home, as Sean Bean and Nicola Walker’s marriage comes to a climatic close with a finale spread over two episodes. Tonight, Ian frets as Emma sets off in her favourite red jacket for an overnight conference with her predatory boss, Jamie. Ian’s attempts to keep himself busy – with, er, buying shower gel and killing ants – fails and that night he makes his way to the hotel… Emma, meanwhile, is in Jamie’s bedroom after a hard day’s networking. Explosive showdowns follow, made all the more shocking thanks to all the groundwork done by this relationship drama. Concluding episode tomorrow.

Marriage, BBC iPlayer

Fans of Stefan Golaszewski (Him & Her, Mum) are in for a treat, as the writer-director debuts his new series. TV heavyweights Sean Bean and Nicola Walker star as couple Ian and Emma, who are far from wedded bliss as they approach their 27th anniversary. Ian is in freefall after being made redundant, while Emma is quietly thrilled by the attentions of her boss, Jamie (an excellently obnoxious Henry Lloyd-Hughes). An intense look at the minutiae of married life, which for singles may feel like a blink-and-you-miss it backwater; for couples, it’s an eye-opening drive through the intricate landscape of long-term relationships. All four episodes are now available on BBC iPlayer.

Who doesn’t love a dog? And a dog movie, for that matter. Channing Tatum, for one, who came back to starring roles after a while out of the limelight for this likeable comedy about a traumatised army ranger paired up with a vicious dog for a cross-country journey to a funeral. Channing also co-directs (alongside Reid Carolin) and has turned out an entirely predictable though very good-natured film designed to go to work on the hardest of hearts as both man and hound learn lessons in life. In case you’re wondering who the ‘Lulu’ is that the film is dedicated to, it’s Channing’s own dog, who died after he and his faithful but sick pet made a final road trip of their own.
