Best TV shows on TV tonight
Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, 8pm, BBC One
Freddie Flintoff is barely off the TV these days, but we get the feeling his latest project is closer to his heart than any other show he’s appeared on in recent years. This three-part series follows the former England captain as he returns to a council estate near where he grew up in Preston, in a bid to get the local teenagers interested in cricket, but with most of them considering the sport ‘posh and boring’, Freddie soon realises he has his work cut out.

A Taste of the Country, 7.30pm, Channel 5
With his sandy locks and down-to-earth cooking style, chef Julius Roberts could be the new Jamie Oliver. The 25-year-old has swapped the heat of a London restaurant for an idyllic Dorset smallholding, and cameras follow his journey to self-sufficiency for this new series. Tonight, Julius gets to work planting a veg patch, building a fence for his goats and looking after his menagerie of bees, chickens and sheep. He also shows us how to make some simple summer meals using veg from the garden, including a pea and broad bean risotto and a barbecue of lemon chicken kebabs with grilled vegetables cooked over a firepit. It’s all a bit envy-inducing!

Ben Fogle's New Lives in the Country, 9pm, Channel 5
The new series begins with Ben meeting car salesman Paul, carer Toni and their daughter Harriet as they sell their Kent home and up sticks to a remote village in west Scotland. Their dream is to restore and run a thriving country pub at the heart of the local community. But neither of them has ever pulled a pint before, or worked in a commercial kitchen, or renovated an old building. Oh, and did we mention Covid lockdowns? Ben is rightly concerned that this new life in the country will be over before it’s even started.

Ghislaine Maxwell: The Making of a Monster, 10pm, C4
Ghislaine Maxwell was born into a life of privilege and power, but this summer she’s set to begin a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of sex trafficking minors on behalf of Jeffrey Epstein. The first episode in this three-part series delves into her early life and how her lavish lifestyle was snatched away when her father’s mysterious death left the family penniless and ostracised. Desperate to fill the void he left behind, she moved to New York and met a mysterious money manager who restored her entitled lifestyle – but at what price? Concludes on Thursday.

Bake Off: The Professionals, 8pm, C4
The remaining teams need to have their creative brains in gear as they are tasked with creating 24 perfect chaussons aux pommes, or apple turnovers to you and me. Then they must make a new viennoiserie, which is a baked good that uses yeast but is also sweetened, like a croissant or brioche. Finally, the Showstopper challenges the chefs to present a striking sugar showpiece inspired by the theme of ‘A Garden Paradise’. And just to increase the pressure, this is for a place in next week’s quarter-final.

On the Morning You Wake (To the End of the World): Storyville, 10pm, BBC Four
It may sound like something from a Hollywood movie, but on 13 January 2018 at 8.08am, a text alert was accidentally sent to the entire population of Hawaii. It warned of an incoming ballistic missile. Storyville retells the event in shocking detail, recreating the experiences of people who, for 38 minutes, had to face the imminent treat of a modern-day nuclear attack.
