Britain's Tourette's Mystery: Scarlett Moffatt Investigates, 10pm, C4

TV tonight Scarlett talks to experts and sufferers.

In the past few years there has been a huge surge in the number of young people, particularly girls, with tics and Tourette’s syndrome. In this illuminating and worrying documentary, presenter Scarlett, who had facial tics herself as a schoolgirl, talks to medical experts and sufferers to examine the sudden rise in cases. Among the teenagers Scarlett meets are 16-year-old Betsy and 14-year-old Nicole, who seemed to develop Tourette’s overnight. Could anxiety and isolation brought on by the Covid pandemic be the root cause, and what part has the increased use of social media played? Eye-opening viewing.

Darcey Bussell's Royal Road Trip, 9pm, More4

TV tonight Darcey learns to Highland dance.

Former Strictly judge Darcey embarks on a four-part royal road trip across the UK, following in the footsteps of the Queen to mark the Platinum Jubilee year. The celebratory adventure follows royal fan Darcey (who received her damehood from the Queen in 2018) as she visits some the destinations most loved by Her Majesty. She also indulges in some of the Queen’s favourite pastimes, which include hiking in the Scottish Highlands, horse racing at Ascot and enjoying the best of Norfolk’s local cuisine, including – rumour has it – potted shrimp on toast!

Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, 8pm, BBC One

TV tonight Will Freddie’s efforts pay off?

Freddie’s mission to spread the word about cricket to kids like he once was – a working-class Preston lad – has been a struggle, a fight against the attitudes of his reluctant teenagers as much as prejudice from outside (two-thirds of the last Ashes squad were privately educated). As this short series ends, how will his scrappy newbies fare against an elite school?

Two Doors Down, 10pm, BBC Two

TV tonight Michelle and Beth share a moment.

The ladies of Latimer Crescent dress up to the nines when Michelle (Joy McAvoy, sister of James) invites them round for a girls’ night. Well, everyone except Christine, who shuffles over with her knitting. The fizz flows, Cathy (who else?) insists on a drinking game, and home truths are unloaded. Christine takes it a step too far when she insults Eric, enraging a tipsy Beth (Arabella Weir). Christine takes offence, kind-hearted Michelle attempts to diffuse the situation, and Cathy suggests they all watch a porno. Standard night in then!

Kew Gardens: A Year in Bloom, 8pm, Channel 5

Some very strange flowers are blossoming at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, as cameras return for a second behind-the-scenes series. In the Princess of Wales Conservatory, the Alcantarea imperialis is about to flower for the first time since it was planted 20 years ago. It’s not an entirely happy occasion, though, because after its blooms finally appear the plant will die! We also get the lowdown on the odd-looking Titan arum from Indonesia, which grows a bizarre three-metre flower spike that smells strongly of rotting flesh! Luckily, we don’t have TVs with digital scent technology yet!

Best box set to watch on TV tonight

Superman & Lois, season 2, BBC iPlayer

TV tonight Elizabeth Tulloch and Tyler Hoechlin return for season 2.

The first series of this action-packed drama ended with the Kent family trying to get their heads around John’s daughter Natalie (Tayler Buck) arriving from another dimension and thinking Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) is her mum. She isn't, sadly, in this dimension anyway, but it adds an interesting dynamic between the two characters as season 2 drops in full on iPlayer. As always, what we love best about this series is how it combines real-life family drama with huge action sequences and end of the world jeopardy – and there’s plenty of both in this new season. As teenage twins Jonathan and Jordan have girl trouble, Lois is struggling to reconcile some dark feelings from her past and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) is flying around the globe stopping disasters in their tracks, whilst also trying to be a good dad and husband. There’s also a new threat introduced in the shape of  Lieutenant Anderson (Ian Bohen), who reveals his not-so-cunning plan to make more Supermen, which is just never going to end well!

Best film to watch on TV tonight

Magic Mike, 11.25pm (times vary), BBC One

TV tonight Channing Tatum in a semi-autobiographical role.

It’s 10 years since Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and co first got their kits off in the comedy-drama about life inside a male dance troupe. So, plenty of glistening torsos and raunchy moves amid a plot about the guys wanting to be treated as more than just a piece of meat. Fans will know it’s based loosely on Channing’s own story, and will be delighted to hear that he and original director Steven Soderbergh are both on board for Magic Mike’s Last Dance, currently in production. Pass the baby oil.
